March 21 to 29, 2006, a delegation including ACAC Supplier Management, Engineering (FAI), and Manufacturing (SAMF) conducted the ARJ21-700 avionics system Critical Design Review (CDR) with Rockwell Collins (RC) at RC world headquarters in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA. Representatives of the CAAC-AAD also participated.
The extensive design review included hardware, software and subsystems of the avionics systems used in ARJ21. The ACAC delegation had detailed discussions with RC design team and confirmed in the end that the avionics design will correctly support the total success of the ARJ21 aircraft family. More than 60 persons participated in the proceedings.
The avionics system is now in development with most design activity located in Cedar Rapids. The delegation toured the avionics system rig which is already in use for subsystem testing of the avionics system. The delegation confirmed the avionics system design and schedule progress is on or ahead of schedule. ACAC will receive its avionics system rig from RC later this year.
After the Critical Design Review, the delegation traveled to the Melbourne, Florida design and manufacturing facility where most of the ARJ21 avionics equipment is manufactured and shipped to ACAC. RC representatives provided detailed briefings on RC quality system and manufacturing processes, as well as a tour of the production facility.
This extensive set of meetings has made great success and clears the way for production planning of the avionics for ARJ21.
